Equipment

Basically, no special equipment is needed. We are not going to any extreme locations. If you have footwear designed for hiking, that’s great, but you should be fine in everyday sport shoes as well (though they might get a bit dirty of course), or a pair of warm boots in winter.

Regarding clothing, make sure you dress according to the current weather, and consider layered clothing. This way, if you get warm on the ascents, you can just take something off for a while. If you tend to be cold, make sure you cover your extremities well (warm socks, gloves, scarf, a beanie or a headband). If it looks like there is a chance of rain, it might be worth it to pack a raincoat – even one of those plastic bag types might be useful.

Do you prefer hiking with poles? No worries! If you don’t have your own on you, I have a few pairs to lend. Just please let me know in advance so I can make sure to bring them for the hike.

Even though we don’t have tough winters in Hungary anymore, it is always better to be prepared. Looks like there is snow on the hills, maybe even some icy spots? You don’t have to cancel your hike! To make sure you won’t slip, you can borrow snow spikes as well, not just hiking poles, so you don’t have to skip the fun!

There are some tours that have a buffet or small restaurant at the start/end point, but in the forest there are no establishments to buy any food or drinks, please consider this when packing for your hike. For all hikes, the price includes a small bottle (0.5l) of still water per person. You can bring some more water or other beverage and some snacks (I suggest fruits like banana, apple or dried dates, cereal bars, sandwich) with you.

If you are bringing your puppy, make sure you bring the general puppy pack (leash, snacky, poop bags) as well.

I carry a small first aid kit to all hikes, but if you have any medicine that you might need to take during the excursion, please make sure to have it on you!
